I once built a pc on top of the motherboard antistatic bag and every time i fired it up I had all sorts of glitches and problems until I realized the problem was the bag it was on top of. Turns out the bag had a criss cross pattern of conductive strips, I tested it with my multimeter. Just goes to show not all situations are the same and I was just happy I figured it out and I hadn't killed my hardware.

I also decided to buy an SSD and found out the sata cable I had has an L shaped connector and wouldn't allow the drive to fit in the mount so it's laying loose on the floor of my case.

I come from the electronics industry. The whole point about using anti-static wrist straps and foot straps is that you need the proper anti-static flooring and it needs to be cleaned and moistened quite often to keep the static down to a minimum. Even need to use a special formula of Staticide meant for anti-static flooring. Also you need anti-static mats that are grounded correctly. If none of this is actually being done, there is no damn reason to use the foot straps and wrist straps, they will do nothing for you. If you have just a normal tile floor or waxed tile floor, maybe even wood/some kind of composite, there's no point to using either one. Besides, if you're sitting, you need an anti-static chair as well, that chair need to ground to the anti-static floor. Anti-static items work as a system, not individual components per se. People are better off turning up the humidity in their home or business past 49% R.H., the humidity will drop the voltage that is incurred by your movement across the floor significantly. Granted, it's best to do this on tiled or wood flooring instead of carpet. For g*d sakes, don't do it in your stockings and be wearing any kind of wool; bad, bad idea. I've encountered a lot of system builders that have these anti-static booties (coverall boots), hand straps and redundant foot straps over the booties. I pulled them over to the anti-static test rigs and it was completely worthless for them to be using that stuff, just looks like it works but didn't actually. I mean in you really wanted to go balls to the wall you need anti-static smocks to go with all that stuff you're wearing, head shrouds, too.

Yeah great... so he gets to slap together a rig with caution thrown to the wind and it boots up just fine first try meanwhile I put together a AMD rig constantly frightened about damaging shit and handling components like they're made out of glass, and despite getting an A6 9500E apu that my mobo's manufacturer lists as being supported by all bios versions, my computer has gone from boot looping to just powering up and refusing to respond to the power button thereafter, with no post, no beep errors codes, and no usb connectivity...

This video is not valid. You forgot to keep the "REMOVE BEFORE USE"- plastic sticker on the cold plate of the CPU cooler. I am not even kidding. A colleague of mine just built his computer and was complaning about the high temps of his Ryzen 1600 CPU- which he paired with an Asus Crosshair Hero VI if I might add. His computer looked pretty much like this here. No cable management, but tempered glass side window, power supply upside down, with all cables plugged into the PSU, although it was fully modular and he didnt need half of the cables. The whole shebang. AND- he left the plastic sticker on the CPU cooler coldplate. It was like he was watching this here video as a tutorial before building his PC. But worse.

I started out with 286/386 and 486 systems running DOS/ Win3.1 Would bring them home from the markets and play with them on the carpets.. ooh what's this, looks like it will fit into this other system in the spare slots, wack (RAM) and yeah, threw pieces all over the carpet, never knew any of this shit as a kid lol None of those systems ever 'broke'
