So basically for someone in my position, (OC'd 8700k, Strix 1080, 1440p 75hz monitor) were screwed. 1080ti's aren't a massive leap over the 1080, but do perform better (again, not drastically at my resolution) but the 1080ti's are impossible to find new anywhere here in the US for a fair price. The 2080ti costs well over $1000, ($1300+, IF YOU CAN EVEN FIND ONE), and the 2080 costs what a 1080ti used to and performs about the same. I'd be getting like a 10% imrpovement, strictly speaking FPS wise. Trouble for me is, even OC'd my 1080 has a hard time in certain games achieving 75 fps at 1440p. So I want a new card that can for sure handle 75fps on ultra settings, but theres no card readily available thats remotely fairly priced that can do what I'd like. The 2080 vs 1080ti comparison is tough because performance wise they seem to be within 10% of eachother, but specs wise the 1080ti has the 2080 beat. One of those two is nearly impossible to find new, the other is an extremely poor value.

There's a lot of context left out. Pure from a conventional gaming perspective, I can relate: the release of the RTX 20xx is disappointing because the prices are as high as with any new release but the performance increase is quite low (tbh...only 0-14% in worst-case, 15-25% in most cases). That is still a long shot from the conventional 40 or even 50% with previous releases! So yeah....disappointing from a conventional gaming perspective. But think about it: Moore's law begins to lose it's momentum. Which means it's going to be tougher and more expensive to cram more transistors on a given area. Also the yield gets lower and lower as the nano meters drop. Which makes it even more expensive. Nvidia knows this. So instead of trying to desperately stay on the same track, they did something quite revolutionary. Which, indeed, still has no added value whatsoever in overall gaming. But it does in other fields. Another way you could look at this is from a point of view of VR-development. Of course, we just had our hype spike and everybody is very disappointed in that area as well. Yet, many fields (including computer gaming) are embracing the possibilities. In VR the new generation of cards DO perform 40 to 50% better than their predecessors! http://uploadvr.com/rtx-2080-performance-benchmark/ So if you're into conventional gaming you got a lot of bang for your buck! Because there is no need for you to buy expensive gfxcards, vr-headsets or even expensive monitors and still you get the best performance! What I find really disappointing is the lack of new releases from Team Red.

We rely on you to cry out about this price gouging bullshit, and you're just not doing it. Moaning about the 2080 price but then saying that $500 is where you want to be on 2070 price is absurd. It's not where we want to be, not at all. I'm on a GTX 970, looking to upgrade, and I think on principle I'm going to get a Vega 56 to tide me over. RTRT will have a decent support in the next gen consoles .... why do developpers have to spend time on implement something that 99 % of gamers don't have

I upgraded to a 2070 from a 780 so I did get a huge performance boost but I am disappointed in its price point. I was really hoping it would be cheaper. I basically got a 1080. I had initially wanted a 1080ti to upgrade to, but they have basically sold out anywhere that would offer me a good 3 year warranty. So I went with this. It wasn't a bad purchase, but it's really not a good purchase either. Compared with the 1070 this is actually a really bad launch. The 1070 had a performance boost over the 980ti for $200 less. I was really expecting this to perform better than a 1080ti which I wanted in the first place, I just waited way too long to upgrade because of the crypto mining boom. Nvidia is asking me to take their word that Ray Tracing and DLSS will be worth the extra money which I can't do. So to anybody thinking of upgrading to this card. I would only say you should, If like me you are upgrading from something now a few generations or more behind. I really hope it performs well on the Acer X34P as that is the monitor I am upgrading to.

What driver version are you using? What brand of card are you using? If you bought it used that is always a gamble. The latest drivers are buggy and crashing games and causing screen flickering even on pascal architecture. I suggest going to Nvidia's forums as well as the card manufacturers forums and posting a thread with the specifics of your issues in as much detail as you can give even if it's not much. A list of the components you use(cpu, gpu, ram, etc.) A list of your current drivers, your bios ver. for the mobo you are using and your current Windows build version. If you can include screenshots and/or video of any issues you are having. The card manufacturers forums will honestly be your best bet as Nvidias forums are often not the most helpful since I have never actually seen Nvidia employees ever really reply to threads of people experiences problems in the same way that EVGA has for me in the past.

Raytracing is a probably not gonna be a thing until we see the next gen cards form Nvidia that is also why I think this will be a more than a lack luster in sales for Nvidia unless they cut prices on 2080/TI they won't see that much in terms of sales. That being said it seems that AMD will be presenting their new cards in January at CES I won't be investing in new cards until April or May next year so should be fun to see what they can bring to the table.

Reposting from another post: Presumably, the 2070 has the same binning system as the 2080 and 2080ti. If so that means the "reference" 2070 is the one on the "lower grade" chip and not permitted to be factory overclocked. If AIB partners are selling at prices closer to the already overclocked "founders edition" cards, then it is likely that they are selling the "higher grade" chips that are permitted to be factory overclocked. If all of this confusion is correct, then we will eventually get the lower grade chips being sold by AIB partners at closer to MSRP. In fact you may see more of those lower grade chips on sale once AMD release Navi. Especially if at the high end Navi is on par with the RTX2080 just as the RX Vega 64 was in the same bracket as the GTX 1080 and not the GTX 1080ti as countless reviewers started running comparisons of because of the retailer inflated pricing. I watched Jesen's 2hour presentation and from the very get go reviewers have been confused by the change in strategy by Nvidia regarding their founders edition cards. So they keep referring (in some cases) to the FE cards are reference cards even though they are not. I for one can see why Nvidia did this especially after the crypto excuse for price gouging by retailers last year. So with Nvida selling overclocked cards directly; something I hope AMD eventually start doing too, it means that there is, in theory at least, an upper limit price control. If, I don''t know some store, CanCompParts decides to put an asking price of US$1500 on the ROG RTX 2080 (not the RTX 2080ti), and I can get the, again OVERCLOCKED RTX 2080ti FE card directly from Nvidia, then I will know CanCompParts are price gouging and trying to rip consumers off so I would go directly to Nvidia. This type of shopping around is something reviewers and tech journalists should educating gamers and people buying these cards on rather than simply attacking Nvida on the pricing of the Turing cards. Jensen earlier in the year did say GPU prices weren't going down anytime soon, so this level of pricing should have been expected. Basically in what I see as Nvidia's new FE pricing setup, US$50-US$200 (depending on AIB overclock and other customizations) above the OVERCLOCKED Founders Edition card price becomes an upper limit for the pricing of these cutdown Volta GPUs Nvidia named Turing. Only EVGA KINGPIN or custom PCB or water cooled and equivalent RTX 2080ti/2080/2070 GPUs should justify a price mark-up close to the US$200 level.
